Providing verbal and written sound clinical information and management advice in response to emergency and informational telephone calls. 4. Initiating follow-up calls to assess patient status and altering management recommendations as appropriate. 5. Investigating case history, researching medical literature and consulting appropriate sources to provide informed and proper treatment and triage recommendations and developing protocols that are medically and economically appropriate. 6. Communicating with on-call staff concerning medical and toxicological-related issues. 7. Preparing information for and attending continuing education activities, such as weekly case conference meetings, in-service sessions and staff meetings. 8. Based on the seriousness of the incident and the callers level of cognition, independently determining whether the poisoning incident can be handled by the UPCC or whether the poisoning victim should be seen by a health care provider. 9. Participating in ongoing training of staff and precepting PharmD students, emergency medicine residents and pediatric emergency medicine fellows. 10. Participating in professional education activities. 11. Participating in a toxicology course offered at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. 12.
