I own a 1966 BSA Lightning thats in fairly good condition, I bought the bike earlier this year and my buddy rode it back from up near the Kentucky border down to Chattanooga so it runs ok. I am having trouble with it fouling plugs (at least I think thats the main problem). I have taken apart and cleaned the carb on the side causing the fouling but now it just doesnt seem to want to run worth a damn. I have no idea how to adjust the carbs and am looking for someone who can give me some pointers. I enjoy working on the bike myself but am looking for someone with some time to go over the finer points of the beautiful old brit bike with me and if we could get the bike running and idiling right that would be fantastic. I could also use some help tuning up the controls as theyve gotten a little sticky over time. I rode the bike to work a few times not too long ago and it will not idle, it died on me at least once every trip, thats something else Id like to get straightened out. I have gone through the whole thing and checked EVERYTHING on that bike. I rebuilt the carbs when I got it and resealed them, no gas leaks on the bike. I bought a new petcock, new thermostat, all the fluids are changed probably more than needed, but because I did not know the previous condition of the bike I wanted to make sure. I just changed the oil about 100 miles ago, I put new tires front/back about 50 miles ago. I also put a new battery about 4 months ago. The bike runs excellent. The paint looks good, the bike is not its original color, but I tried to get it close. The paint looked bad before I got it. Like I said, I would not sell this bike if I didnt have to. Here are some parts left over from when I parted my wrecked 2004 Katana 600.The frame is straight except for the end where the tail piece mounts. It would need to be straightened, but shouldnt be too hard. Clear title. $250 obo.Back tail piece: Scratched and cracked. No pieces missing though. Can be fixed. $30 obo.Back tire and wheel: I wrecked after I bought a new tire, so its pretty much brand new. 160/60 Zr17 Pilot Power. Wheel is good, but may need to be painted. $100 obo.The gas tank works, but has a softball sized dent in it. Could be fixed or used for stunt. No key.
