300 sq. feet of new primed shitty siding (SE Hawthorne) SE Hawthorne 2009-06-15 8:48AM
The siding is called \"TruWood Siding\", an engineered composite siding manufactured by Collins Products, and later bought out by Weyerhauser.I have 25 16 lengths, that have a 9 1/2\" exposure. So that is over 300 square feet of coverage. It is new, pre-primed, and it is supposed to mimic a cedar shake look.Not only is it ugly (fake cedar shake look), it is shitty siding for this climate. There is a class action lawsuit slowly through the channels over this stuff. The problem is that it takes up too much moisture and expands and contracts through the seasons. It might go better if you slap a healthy coat of paint on it. As far as I can tell, it is impossible to caulk the butt joints on this stuff - it moves too much.Who would want to buy this? Not very many people. Maybe somebody who has to throw up some siding for a few years. Maybe for a shed that has eaves (and small enough so it has no butt joints). Maybe for a playhouse in the back that the kids are gonna outgrow in a few years.Make me an offer.
