This is a deal, If you baught new, one tank would be over $200.00. If you buy used, then you would have to get the tank Hydro'd and visually inspected, then filled. If the valve needs a new burst disc or repairs, this could cost over $40.00 or more per tank. $60.00 may sound like allot of money, but not after it is all ready to dive. Now if you are on a budget and want your own tanks, this is the way to go. Steel tanks last forever, as long as they are rinsed off and kept in a dry place when not used. They cut down on the amount of weight you need in your bcd or on your weight belt. They are shorter than aluminums and weigh less than aluminums out of water. The biggest misconception is the pressure rating of 2250 or 2400 PSI. Some think that you are missing almost a 3rd of your air. What is important is how many cubic feet of air the tank is rated at. A 72 cuft tank at 2250 is really 69 cuft of air, which is 11 cubic feet less than a aluminum 80, but 6 to 9 cuft of air more than a aluminum 60 or 63 cubic foot. The steel 72 cuft has to be filled 10 percent higher than 2250, or 2475 in order to be a true 72. This could only be done the first 5 years after it was built. What helps is that less weight to carry and that at the end of a dive the tank is negative bouyant and you will not have to fight to stay down, like aluminum tanks cause you to do. When you are a more relaxed diver, the less you work and the better your air consumption will be. You would come very close to the same amount of time diving a steel 72 than you would have with a aluminum 80 cuft. If you got questions call me. 258-4470.
