I HAVE RECENTLY PROVIDED A DONATION OF SNAILS (at their request) TO A RESEARCHER HERE IN WASHINGTON DC AT THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM FOR A STUDY ON EVOLUTION AND SPECIES RELATIONSHIPS--PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE EMAIL LIST ONCE THE STUDY RESULTS ARE RELEASEDI have been breeding these snails for 10 years.  They are ideal for Koi Ponds, Goldfish Ponds and Aquariums, and are AMAZING ALGAE EATERS.  They will CLEAR your pond of algae!   "Pea Soup" algae will clear in just weeks.  No more scrubbing sides and edges.  Stop putting UNNATURAL chemicals into your pond.  They are EXTREMELY DETRIMENTAL to your pets and or OUR environment (no to mention expen$ive).  My snails are the best janitorial crew you can find, and you wont have to purchase any more snails or chemicals (algaecide) again for the life of your pond!  I am located in Fairfax, VA.  Approximately 12 miles from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)   These snails are non-inundating and give live birth, not egg layers that overwhelm your pond.-           These pond snails are the preferred species of water gardeners world-wide.  This is due to the species' NON-CONSUMPTION of living plants, as many snail species do.  This snail is black in color, body and shell. They are shipped when they get 1-1˝" long. These are one of the few varieties that CAN AND WILL survive the winter in Northern & cold climates. This snail is a great asset in keeping algae under control as they groom your plants, planting pots and watergarden walls. They also cruise the pond bottom and consume decaying matter such as leaves, unconsumed fish food, and fish excreteria and waste. These are live bearing snails. They only breed a couple of times a year so don't expect them to multiply fast like regular egg laying snails. Full grown snails are around 3" long.  Ive had some near 4" occasionally! Order according to the size of watergarden or pond you have. For ponds and watergardens use at least 1 snail per 3 square feet of pond space. For snails to have a positive effect on algae growth you should have 20 for small watergardens and 36-50 or more for larger watergardens. Farm ponds should have at least 100 to have any positive effect.     SNAIL FACTS Survive in tropical ponds: Yes Algae eating capacity:  Moderate to High Survive in winter climates:     Yes Plant eating :  No Breathing:     Gilled  Breeding:  Sexual, live-bearing Please email for a population recommendation--Be sure to include the dimensions of your pond or the volume of water in gallons.
