The great thing about Digital SLR cameras is that you can change lenses. The downside to that is that everytime you change a lens you expose the ultra sensitive sensor to whatever happens to be in the air. Compound that with a week at Burning Man, and well you just might have an expensive piece of equipment that captures the same weird artifact on every picture you take. Can you say, "mucho hours in photoshop"?
Now you could go buy a sensor cleaning pen and try this delicate operation yourself. Good luck with that, if you don't scratch the sensor it is likely that you will leave streaks, which of course show up on your images. Not saying it can't be done, but probably not the first few dozen times you try it. I have cleaned thousands of sensors. Mostly for the local professionals, and for camera professionals all accross the western US. It is a developed skill, and most pros don't have to do it often enough to get the required repetitions.
