NERL is responsible for conducting and supporting high quality research targeted to understanding and resolving the nation’s most serious environmental threats. ORD develops methods and techniques to reduce exposure to pollution and prevent its creation. The student contractor must have at a minimum completed a Masters of Science (MS) or Masters of Arts (MA) degree program majoring in chemistry, environmental science, or a related field at an accredited college/university within the last two years. The student must be familiar with basic laboratory health and safety. The student contractor will work within a multi-disciplinary research team and will provide technical laboratory and field support for research projects on identifying and quantifying environmental stressors.Specific duties will include assisting research staff in:(1) Conducting short and long-term laboratory and field projects; (2) Laboratory preparation and analysis of samples; (3) Field collection, preparation and analysis of samples; (4) Equipment preparation including, but not limited to, modification and testing, and calibration;(5) Analytical instrumentation standards preparation; (6) Preparation of Standard Operating Procedures; (7) Compilation and summarization of experimental data and literature references into organized computer files. General laboratory support duties may include maintaining research supplies and materials, routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, solution preparation, and other duties necessary to carry out the studies.(8) The student contractor may be expected to participate in conference and seminarsin support of the Statement of Work.The student contractor shall perform duties, as requested, according to specifications and instructions provided by the mentor. Where appropriate, the student contractor shall maintain careful and accurate records in designated laboratory notebooks. Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS), a sister company to Bigelow Aerospace, is a newly formed research organization that focuses on novel and emerging future technologies worldwide as they specifically relate to spacecraft. BAASS is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. We are seeking an EMF/RF engineer/scientist to work as part of the scientific division of the BAASS team. Should be familiar with radar systems theory, electromagnetic and radio frequency theory, data analysis and standard electronics test equipment (i.e. spectrum analyzers). Requires an understanding of both theory and hands-on application in the detection of environmental RF and EMF components. Works in a team environment with both technical and non-technical personnel and may require travel for field based studies. Should be able to investigate problems with equipment and instrumentation in a laboratory or field setting and make adjustments accordingly. Will rely heavily on analyzing field measurements of spectrum and use of computer software for analysis, to compose technical reports of findings. Be able to calibrate equipment, provide documentation, and also training to personnel on use of instrumentation and data acquisition. Requires a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work with little direct supervision.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university. Must have knowledge and skill to solve complex problems related to engineering and/or science. Work is performed in both office and field environments with overnight test support as required. The position requires walking on rough surfaces, bending, stooping, climbing, and possibly lifting up to 30 pounds. Must be able to manipulate computers and view and interpret computer displays. Must be a U.S. citizen, have a valid driver’s license. Desired Qualifications:In addition to the minimum BS requirement, up to 2 years of experience in field testing, data analysis, and technical writing, or, a Master of Science Degree in a related electronics discipline from an ABET accredited college or university plus experience as described above.
