I purchased this Scout within the last couple years. Unfortunately since January 2008 I have been traveling for work and so I should sell the rig as it sits too muchThis would be my first Scout so I am no expert. The 345 engine seems to run well. The previous owner said he did a few mods to the carburetor but I think it was just extending some vent tubes or whatever to help with off-camber or steep hills. I dont remember if he said it was the original engine or not. I can always call him and get more details. I believe there are about 35,000 miles showing on the odometer so it should be 135k total. The interior is clean and was repainted by the previous owner. Nothing fancy. There is a cheap radio in there but I dont know if it works - no speakers at this time. The switches and everything worked the last time I drove it. The windshield is busted up pretty good and I believe the rest is all crack-free. I bought a new seal for the windshield but didnt get around to replacing it before I left. I believe some decent sized sections of the floor were replaced so everything is solid. The bed was covered with fairly heavy steel and rhino lined, as are the fender wells and lips. It isnt a bad looking machine but it is probably best as an off-road rig.The Scout turns on a dime. The Dana 44 front has disk brakes and I was told it was locked. I didnt take time to jack it up and find out for sure. The rear Dana 60 is supposed to have a posi. After driving my 1993 Dodge diesel I appreciated the good stopping power of this Scout. The springs are on top of the axles. The power steering seemed to work well. However, the 33\" tires track all over the highway, especially when grooved. If I was keeping it I would spend some good money to get the front axle geometry reworked. Well, maybe the steering box is worn - I am not sure. The tie rods seemed newish and tight. The tires are pretty new and are siped.The drive shafts are all tight as I believe the previous owner swapped in both axles. He also had the new exhaust installed.The one thing that I really notice is the whine which I assume is coming from the transmission. I had no issues driving the rig but it is noisy in the cab, largely due to the noisy transmission or transfer case. I only checked the fluids but didnt yet replace any. Shifts fine. Id be too tempted to swap in a Chevy drivetrain rather than freshen up the engine, transmission, and transfer case. Therefore another reason to sell it. I am selling my BLACK 1991 VW Jetta Wolfsburg addition vehicle. It has a little over 162,000 miles on it. It is a 5 speed manual with a CD player and sunroof. Gets about 25 mpg in town and 29/30ish on the highway. The interior is in decent shape for how old it is. Just got new(er) tires on it but you will need snow tires once winter hits (does drive excellent on the snow). It does have a small dent in the drivers side passanger door. On the inside the insulation on the ceiling does need to be installed, it comes with the material. The two passangers side door windows do need new hardware for the windows to roll down. (Purchased the Car Like that). The headlights wiring on the switch must have come loose in the dash board because when you turn them on the switch has to be on an angle to come on but they work fine. Also, when you drive it in reverse it has a clicking sound. I was told that the strut needs to be replaced. The check engine light does come on but was told that it was just wiring. It does leak a little oil but what older vehilce doesnt. The front bumper should be refassened and the front blinkers need to be reset. The windshield wipers also were wired directly to the battery. If you are capable you probably could hook that up correctly. This car has done good for me. It has been a great run around car with no major problems. I have this project car to finish, but cashflow has changed, so im going to try something new... Instead of finishing the car and selling it, or scrapping the project to sell it, Im going to offer it for sale while its an ongoing project... This ad will change as work progresses on the car, and the price will go up as more is done and it nears completion. The advantage is, those who want less done by someone else will save money by doing their own work, and those folks who want a more complete car can wait, and if no-one buys it beforehand they can get a restored classic... The car was in storage for almost 15 years and was driven to where she was stored. The owner moved into a nursing home and passed. The storage fees lapsed, and the lien title was issued. It is now registered and the title is clear. The body is in real good shape, and very straight except being dented down low behind the rear tire on the drivers side. I will attempt to get pictures of it (at the time i bought it,I couldnt see the lower part of the car from the weeds around it.) There is minor rust around some of the window trim near or under the trim. All the stainless steel trim is presemt and in great shape. The chrome trim, Bumpers, and hubcaps are in real good condition as well. The rear window was broken and needs to be replaced. The drivers door window, and windshield are cracked but very usable for now. It does appear to have been repainted so some body repairs may have been done prior to painting, as yet i cannot be sure why it was re-painted? The motor is well lubricated and free spinning with spark plugs removed. There is no rust present in the cylinders and compression is great at 120psi or better per cylinder. The battery has been replaced with a new factory replacement as of 5/10/09, and the positive cables have also been replaced. The spark plugs have been replaced with new Autolite units. The distributor cap an rotor are new, and dist. has been lubricated. The engine has not been started, and wont be until the fuel system has been checked completely. UPDATE 5-29-09: The fuel tank filler was loose and the tank will have to be dropped and resealed. The rest of the fuel system is in good shape. I bypassed the tank with an aux. fuel cell, and hose going to the fuel pump. The engine fired right up and smoked for a few seconds (probably from the light coat of WD40 that i had shot in the cylinders the previous week) Every consecutive start-up, it didnt smoke at all... No smoke is visible under throttle, no indications of ring or valve damage have been found.A new ignition lock cylinder with keys has been purchased but has not been replaced as yet (5-14-09). The interior is in real good shape, without tears or sagging. The vinyl is soft and pliable, and hasnt been damaged by sun. Im not sure if its original, but appears to be, or of a similiar style. The odometer reads 57024.? miles and may be original, as there is very little wear on the pedal rubber, and carpet. The interior is White/ Turquoise, and matches the original paint scheme... UPDATE 6-02-09: The factory interior color was a dark tan, so the interior was changed, and is not factory. From what Ive seen of the factory interiors, They look good on the red and white exteriors, but not too sharp on any of the others. Title is Clear and Currently registered If you have additional questions, ill try and answer as best i can. Im unsure how fast work will progress as its based on time, and money... I may consider trades of similar value.
