For sale: When I bought this guitar last month, I was told it was a '57 reissue. However, I figured it was not...at least not an American model, anyway. I am honestly not even sure if the entire guitar is Fender; some parts are definitely Fender. I will disclose all the details I have determined thus far. The neck has a skunk-stripe and an allen wrench truss rod adjustment at the body end of the neck (not a phillips). The tuners are cheap Schaller-style tuners, with vintage-style buttons and the two placement pins. The low E string tuner was broken, so I replaced it with a slightly bent Grover tuner. The decal is the sketchiest part -- it is vintage style (no Patent numbers) but is the only part of the headstock that is lacquered; the rest has been sanded-down. The nut and saddles are brass. The bridge is definitely American in terms of size; the mounting screw and saddle screw spacing is wide like, unlike foreign made strats which are much closer together. The bridge block is nice and thick and has the code 010347 stamped on the bottom. These features are how Fender made their trems from 1970 to 1982; however, my '72 and '75 have blocks that look more like nickel, while this block looks more like chrome. I guess there is the possibility that this part was produced overseas, so I cannot say for sure it is an American bridge. The pickups are generic black bottom with plastic covered wires; they do not have the magnets visible on the bottom (just the pole pieces). The controls are defnitely Fender Japan - there is a 57' reissue on ebay right now with the same pots and cap. The pickguard is three-ply b/w/b and backplate is single-ply white. The body is solid with some minor paint missing on the back -- it glows under black light so it is either polyurethane or nitro-cellulose. The guitar was restrung with 10s, setup, and intonated 06/18/09. The neck is straight with slight relief. The frets show some wear but there are no dead spots. The controls are clean and work perfectly, as does the jack. Since I do not know if this is a real Fender or not but it is made from quality parts, I am selling it for $350 or best offer.
