*Please note this is a part-time position with no benefits.* GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs technical accounting tasks for the Sheriffs Office.  This position is responsible for performing difficult financial record keeping tasks required for balancing and maintaining financial records for the Sheriff. The work is performed in most instances under general supervision and the incumbent makes independent decisions in most cases.  The position is located in the Ada County Sheriffs Office, Administrative Services Bureau. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Reconciles all accounts receivable (this includes receipting and disbursing all funds and transferring the Sheriffs fees); Makes the entries required to bring accounts into balance; Reconciles bank statements, determines the entries required to bring accounts into balance; Sends out billings for all services rendered by the Sheriffs Office (dispatch, security, inmate housing, telephone etc.); Maintains checking account balance; Calculates payments and amounts due; Receives funds, counts collections, and writes receipts; Deposits funds in the bank; Accounts for telephone commissions, court restitution fees, and cash bonds, etc. received; Receives requisitions for purchases; Verifies the availability of funds; Sends requisition to purchasing and monitors the status of purchase orders; Receives vendor invoices and verifies the invoice is complete and   proper; Completes voucher and makes sure items ordered have, in fact, been received; Monitors obligations against approved procurement plan; Manages the collection of Inmate Housing Accounts receivable; Accounts for the funds received; Prepares notification to collection agency to begin the collection process; Receives funds in payment of delinquent accounts and notifies collection agency of account status; Maintains a petty cash fund, keeps detailed records of expenditures, and balances and accounts for funds disbursed;                  Audits various cash funds in the Sheriffs Office on a regular basis; Determines amounts of refunds due under a variety of programs and processes the refund due; Prepares monthly reports of the financial activities; Audits and investigates non-redeemed issued checks; Furnishes information to other entities on matters relating to accounts maintained; Registers employees for training courses and seminars; Provides employee with per diem for travel, audits employee travel voucher upon completion of travel and makes payments necessary to reimburse employee; and Performs related duties as required.JOB SPECIFICATIONS:Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent; A minimum of two years of previous accounting or related experience; Knowledge of double entry bookkeeping systems and procedures; Knowledge of modern office equipment, practices and procedures; Knowledge of business arithmetic; Ability to operate a personal computer and 10 key calculators; Ability to balance and maintain a complete set of double entry financial records; Ability to grasp the relationship between numbers, accounts and items in accounts; Ability to understand and carry out complex verbal and written directions; Ability to prepare detailed fiscal reports; Ability to keep complex clerical records; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to handle, count, and balance amounts of money; Ability to use appropriate telephone etiquette; Ability to maintain confidentiality; and Ability to maintain cooperative working relationship with other employees.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must appear before an oral board and complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions; May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.; Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.**Due to the Sheriffs Offices attempt to create a relatively smoke-free environment for those employees who choose not to smoke because of their growing concern for their health and welfare, applications from non-smokers only will be considered for employment.  Applicants must be non-smokers for at least 11 months prior to applying.APPLY VIA URL:http://hostedjobs.openhire.com/epostings/submit.cfm?fuseaction=app.dspjob&jobid=295965&company_id=15729&jobboardid=1095 Location: Boise, ID 83704 Compensation: DOEPrincipals only.
