| Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary in McCall, Idaho, is looking for a summer wildlife rehabilitation assistant/intern, beginning immediately. Snowdon is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife and their release back to the wild. Job responsibilities include rescue, daily food preparation and feeding, cleaning enclosures, general observation of animals health, keeping clinic clean, and answering the telephone. Assistant will learn basic post veterinary care, animal handling techniques, medication, diet, and first aid. Responsibilities also include general maintenance of enclosures and the surrounding grounds as needed, including weed wacking and watering. Other activities may include assisting with educational programs or a self-guided project. 50-60 hours per week required, with 2 days off per week. Assistant must live on site and may be on call 24 hrs a day during work days. Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary is located on 35 forested acres 7 miles from the town of McCall in west central Idaho. Facilities include a small clinic, indoor and outdoor enclosures, a fawn barn, and directors residence. Housing will be provided in a modest cabin or travel trailer with running water, cooking facilities, and attached outhouse. The Sanctuary is off the grid, which means no electricity to operate televisions, hair dryers, or computers. Propane provides running hot and cold water and refrigeration. Cell phone coverage is good depending on provider. All other amenities are available in town. This position is not for everyone. Applicants must be at least 20 yrs old. Background in pre-veterinary studies, biology, or interpretation preferred but not required. Successful candidates are self-motivated with good communication skills, flexibility, and a willingness to respond to unanticipated challenges.
