| ON-CALL LUNG HEALTH RESEARCH ASSISTANTS NEEDEDWill enlist the support of schools and communities island wide to retain participation of high school students in an ongoing study of the effects of volcanic air pollution on respiratory health. Will assist in the health assessment of students by scheduling and coordinating visits to schools and other community locations, setting up and calibrating test equipment, performing measurements of height, weight, blood pressure, skin allergy testing and lung function. Must have internet access and be able to travel to Big Island communities with testing team for up to 3 days.ON CALL, part time position with irregular hours averaging 0 – 30 hours PER MONTH. Seasonal work - Sept. to Dec./Feb. to June. Research is funded through June 2011. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education: Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college or university in Biological Sciences, Psychology, Education, Social or Environmental Sciences. Will substitute High School Diploma with six (6) months to one (1) year experience working with high school students for an Associate’s Degree.B. Experience: Up to one (0-1) year of experience in teaching or basic laboratory or field work in areas of Education, Biology, Health or Environmental Sciences, Psychology or Social Services. C. Knowledge: Working knowledge of Internet, browsers. Must be accessible via e-mail on a regular basis. D. Abilities and Skills: Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able/willing to drive rental mini and 15 passenger vans to test locations. Able to provide own transportation to recruit and test at schools closest to home location. Able to use word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation programs. Able to travel with team to conduct testing with possible one to three overnight stays. E. Physical and/or Medical Demands: Must be able to carry 25 pounds of equipment to and from vehicle to testing site and up 1-2 stories. | This position is responsible for data management and processing for Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM). The area is managed jointly by three co-trustees, the Departments of Commerce and the Interior and the State of Hawai‘i, and represents a cooperative conservation approach to protecting the entire ecosystem of this culturally and ecologically sensitive area.
