We thought Teacake was feral at first because every time we saw him he would run away at top speed. So we would put out food and leave—sometimes we would peek around the corner and see him come back to eat it after he thought we were gone. Then, after several months of feeding, Teacake started meowing loudly at us, like he was trying to tell us something. Then he let us pet him, and then he climbed in our laps and made himself comfortable! Needless to say, Teacake is not even a little a bit feral, just an abandoned pet who was absolutely terrified until he figured out we could be trusted. Teacake has turned out to be an extremely affectionate and gentle cat who loves to be petted and sit on laps. He also thinks catnip is really great. He is very happy to be inside and rolls around with pleasure, showing us his belly. Teacake has a very sweet, expressive face, and he is very attentive to his humans. He would like a home with lots of lap time for him, and maybe a gentle buddy cat to play with. We think he would also be OK as an only cat. Teacake is vaccinated, neutered, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Our vet says he is about one year old.
