Science Teacher for Bright, Learning Disabled Students - starting in June/July 2009This position is a fantastic opportunity to join a creative team on a new program which intends to become a national model for educating bright children with Aspergers Syndrome and/or High-Functioning Autism. With ample, high quality support, the science teacher will develop and implement a creative, interactive curriculum for students from grades 6-9. Classes are a maximum of eight students, supported by two full-time professionals (two assistants and sometimes a dedicated IEP aide) as well as on-site related service providers (speech path, OT, behavioral support, psychologist). In addition, a full time curriculum coordinator provides teachers with materials and support as needed.The Ivymount Model AS Program is an innovative, social skills driven and academically challenging curriculum. In addition to the abundance of professional support, Ivymount also provides its teachers and students with state-of-the-art technology (each student has a laptop) and it has the necessary funds available to provide various types of enrichment in the sciences and math, including support to run robotics and environmentally-based curricula.
