Today, we have a vintage radio from the legendary Atwater Kent Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia. Offered for sale today is a great vintage Zenith radio. The Zenith 6S254, while not rare, is nevertheless a highly sought after radio, and one which no worthwhile radio collection should be without. This particular radio was acquired from the original owner, who used it into the 1980s. Even though the radio no longer plays, it does power up with no problems. Its roomy chassis makes possible an easy electrical restoration, and when restored, the radio is capable of a sound quality which easily surpasses any modern AM radio. In addition to the AM capabilities, the radio is equipped with a shortwave band (5.5 to 18.5 MC) which will bring in stations from around the world. The radio also covers the old police band. A multi-position tone control adds to your future listening pleasure. The dial spins very easily, and one flick of the tuning knob will send the indicators flying from one end of the dial to the other. (I replaced the broken tuning belt with a new O-ring and thats as far as I got with the radio.) The cabinet, as shown in the photos, has seen better days, however it is rock solid and very sturdy. The veneer is firmly attached, with no lifting at all. One tiny flake of veneer is missing, on the scalloped front edge, toward the right. All this will make for a very easy cabinet restoration. The radio is located on Huntington Avenue, a couple blocks from the Huntington Metro station, and Ill be glad to help you carry it out.
