Ideal for someone - easily takes a couple - who will be here in this wonderful Washington area on TDY or other \"in-transit,\" temporary, or even “just-arriving” status, including if you’re “moving here” for the longer term, but want to have a wonderful place to stay while perhaps researching/looking for the longer-term housing, all while avoiding horrors of the motels and hotels - too expensive, too cold, and too, well, motel-like. Two of our latest guests came here from distant lands (Colorado and North Carolina), stayed here because they wanted to know the area, and did their searches of long-term housing (purchases!) from here. One even used a super friend of mine who is a realtor, and got a house with which he and his wife are totally delighted, all in about a week. Their new house is about a mile from here. But others have stayed longer. Carsten and Ameresh so loved it here that they stayed well over a year before \"they\" became pregnant, and decided to get a house of their own. Michael was here for two years!Let me explain the situation. Largest home - historic one (built in 1847-49 by a Cousin of Robert E Lee) - in Falls Church City. Am now divorced, with three daughters, in their early 20s. All had been staying with me summers and other times, including in-college work as interns here, but they departed the nest. One was studying/living/working in Paris, where she also interned with Christian Dior (did you cry?), but has abandoned Paris for San Diego. Another is with the Washington Post, and has just been promoted. Huzzah, huzzah! Youngest daughter, who did a year in Italy and is quadralingual, just finished Yale, and worked 24/7 for the Obama campaign.Suite is fully furnished. Large historic-style poster bed, desk, lamps, elegant matching cherry chest of drawers. Has its own large, full, private bath, complete with bath towels. Big south-facing and west-facing windows. Its own very-large, cathedral-ceiling shaded porch. Bedroom is full cathedral, beamed ceiling. Even though I say it here, everyone who sees it says, \"oh, you have a huge cathedral ceiling.\" Yes. In fact, our latest guests did it again. \"Oh, wow, a beamed ceiling.\"Two large, lighted closets. Heated by under-the-wood-floors radiant heat: your feet stay warm; your head stays cool. Its own large quiet covered private porch, plus, of course, our south-facing, sunlit large deck. It’s amazing.The suite is virtually a \"wing\" of this huge house. Thus real privacy. You could remain entirely alone, or interact....The “interaction,” if you wanted same, could be with any or all of the rest of “us.” There are several other people in “other wings” of the home: Steve, who just finished about a decade of work in Russia, helping Russian orphans; and Dalia, a LtCol with the U.S. Army; shes doing a 3-month tour with the five-sided building. Leaving us to go climb Kilimanjaro in June are Zach, who was historical librarian at Duke and whose wife is finishing Duke Law, and will be interning here. My two super-educated multilingual mature-young-adult daughters (actually, in their own section of the home). Youve Missed Professor Rebecca, one of the worlds experts on China and its use of the Internet; she has just finished her intensive sabbatical here.Frankly, I’m totally delighted with the way everyone gets along. You’ve missed overlapping with a wonderful actress working the children’s theater at the Kennedy Center, another woman who came here to work for the Congress, anticipating the Democrats’ Victory, and a wonderful medical student now completing her medical studies in Israel but who, just to have a break from that grind, would do four-course family meals here; and our wonderful Ecuadoran who utterly regrets having to move out to Maryland because that’s where her work has gone.So, we’re multi-flavor. But wed love to have you increase our diversity...Shall accept someone/folks monthly or weekly, but strongly prefer multi-month. But, to make this clear, if youre here for 2.37 months, thats what the fee will be. NOT three months.Thus, again, its ideal for someone who is here on TDY or other \"in-transit\" or temporary status, possibly seeking a longer-term place to stay, or just temporarily here, and wants to avoid the horrors of the motels/hotels.Offering largest kitchen youve ever seen (earlier hosted 120 of Russia’s lead entrepreneurs in the Kitchen, or, all over the house, a 100-person group connected to a leading delegation from China - yes, the kitchen is large and superbly equipped).Until about two months ago, house had NO TV. Wasnt even a TV link here. But, to upgrade our Internet Access to the top, went to FiOS, and at the same time added a kind of \"digital rabbit ears\" system. As I still abhor most of American television, unsure well keep it, but we have it now, linked to what had been our large DVD unit in our large family room, feature a working brick fireplace. But, if you NEED full TV, well, this is probably not the place for you. On the other hand, you can get a lot of it through your computer/internet. We do provide fast Internet links, at least if/if you have wireless capability, and may do hard-wire as well.We may have no (well, now \"little\") TV, but were immediate (two-minute walk) to the W&OD bicycle/hiking/running trail, so, if youve a bicycle, or just like to walk, it goes all the way downtown (A from-Germany Officer at the World Bank every day rode his bike all the way down town) or all over Virginia. Oh, and, if you need accompaniment for your walk or run, our three-year-old Half-Dane/Half-Lab, Pepper, who is probably the friendliest dog in the world, is at your immediate disposal. Hell let you know that hes at your disposal. \"Shy\" is not in his vocabulary. If you need to have something to pat or hug, hes ready.... Hell remind you.Having given you that \"negative\" on the little-TV situation (if you consider that lack a negative), let me offer a solid positive. This would sound arrogant if I said it, so let me tell you what others say. All the time. Literally everyone who has seen this house/suite has said its the nicest - by far - place theyve ever seen. One French physician - he was working way out in Maryland, so couldnt stay - even said that hed seen over 25 possible places, and this one beats all of them, including several considerably above $2,000 a month. I hesitate to add that, but, well, thats what they are telling us. Zach, when he joined us, underlined that point. He claimed that this is the nicest location he saw, but its far less expensive than others that he liked much less. Hmm. Maybe I should increase the rates? Relax, no, we’re not doing that now.You:• relatively quiet, at least bordering on occasional sanity• professional• friendly, fun (and dont mind if others talk to you, even if you dont talk much back• NON-SMOKING• NO DRUGS• NO PETS• CHILDREN wed need to discuss. Having had three daughters here, I would love to have kids here, but the presence still in the distant-from-the-suite refurbishing areas of various tools, etc., means, for safety reasons, cannot now consider having young children here - NO, the refurbishing makes absolutely NO noise, at least that you’ll ever hear; theyre nowhere near the suite; and Im not doing much of it now at all (so the power tools are almost all put soundly away), but just cannot have kids in the same place to “find” the power tools and play with them. But - several of our wonderful guests have done this - we can easily handle \"visits of extra friends,\" even providing a small bedroom adjacent to this suite, including children.Suite is in marvelous shape/order. Several parts of the rest of the house (historic area of basement, the big south-facing deck, which Im now going to resurface) are still undergoing some refurbishment, so some can be “cluttered.”Ah, food. No, we don’t “have all meals together,” but, we do some meals here on a semi-haphazard basis, and can wander together to our favorite local restaurants, described below, with lots more available. On week-ends, I can do breakfasts with amazing grits (yes, they can be amazing, if you add milk, three kinds of cheeses, several kinds of pepper, ginger, garlic, loads of turkey bacon, some Asian spicy sesame oil, and a few floor sweepings or whatever). Daphne, just before she left - I can still taste it - did an Italian pasta/sauce combination, with a marvelous Pinot Noir. And, very soon, were all going out again (well, everyone who wants to do so, plus guests) to hit the best Dim Sum restaurant in the area (Yes, I speak Chinese, so we get great service)..... The wonderful area around the home/this neighborhood is dotted with superb restaurants, including ethnic ones (are there other kinds?). In super-easy WALKING distance are ELEVEN international restaurants - all are even closer than the Metro, maybe five minutes walk), including Greek, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Venezuelan, Italian, Peruvian, Lebanese, and Indian restaurants. Dalia, whos from Puerto Rico but had never (!) tried Peruvian chicken, went there on arrival, and came back raving. Also several very nice American ones (new seafood restaurant, the Beach Shack, is a gem, with great food (just had their blackened Grouper, which may be the best seafood dish Ive had anywhere in the world), entertainment (just had someone do a marvelous rendition of Janis Joplin), and a number of kinds of draft beer). Many more are five- to ten-minute drives. There’s even a very-popular Irish “restaurant” (! - the beer is great, but the food, well, drink the beer...) less than five minutes’ walk from here. The Irish always has something happening there.Pricing$1,400 a month, for more than one month$1,600 for only one month.$ 475 for a week.If youre staying a month or more, I shall be asking little deposit, of half a month. If we take two people, the rate will add $100 a month.We include all utilities and telephone service; use of the marvelous Maytag Washer and Drier, use of the refrigerators (home has four of them); use of the huge (largest youve ever seen) luxurious kitchen, etc. Use of the family room, complete with fireplace (home has three of them), DVD player, etc.On me: former U.S. Diplomat, pentalingual (I can be boring in any of five languages: English, French, Russian, Chinese Mandarin, and German), heading a small but super-energetic international company doing major battle with Global Warming, and serving as consultant on projects in at least China and Russia, and maybe France) and - clearly - on environmentally-friendly house development. Have plans soon to build, on extra land I have here, this areas first-ever totally-Energy-Independent home.Photos of home, including kitchen, attached.
