Today, we have a vintage radio from the legendary Atwater Kent Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia. Atwater Kent made some of the most highly-prized of all radios, and this is your opportunity to own the workhorse of the 1920s AK offerings, the ever-popular Model 40.This radio, manufactured in 1928, no longer works, but it makes a fascinating display for the media room. For the radio collector/restorer, it shouldnt take much to get it going. It worked well the last time I fired it up, two years ago, but when I tried it today, I got nothing from it. The radio contains a mix of globe and ST tubes, including a pair of globe 26 tubes.The speaker never worked for me, but its original to the radio, and looks great with it. The speakers grill cloth is original, front and back. When I used the radio, I listened through headphones, but good speakers can be had rather inexpensively from eBay.The radio measures 10\" deep, 17\" long, 7.5\" tall. The central portion of the speaker measures 11\" in diameter, standing around 13\" tall.The radio is located a couple blocks from the Huntington Metro in Alexandria. Offered for sale today is a great vintage Zenith radio. The Zenith 6S254, while not rare, is nevertheless a highly sought after radio, and one which no worthwhile radio collection should be without. This particular radio was acquired from the original owner, who used it into the 1980s. Even though the radio no longer plays, it does power up with no problems. Its roomy chassis makes possible an easy electrical restoration, and when restored, the radio is capable of a sound quality which easily surpasses any modern AM radio. In addition to the AM capabilities, the radio is equipped with a shortwave band (5.5 to 18.5 MC) which will bring in stations from around the world. The radio also covers the old police band. A multi-position tone control adds to your future listening pleasure. The dial spins very easily, and one flick of the tuning knob will send the indicators flying from one end of the dial to the other. (I replaced the broken tuning belt with a new O-ring and thats as far as I got with the radio.) The cabinet, as shown in the photos, has seen better days, however it is rock solid and very sturdy. The veneer is firmly attached, with no lifting at all. One tiny flake of veneer is missing, on the scalloped front edge, toward the right. All this will make for a very easy cabinet restoration. Hi, my name is Derek. Recently I just got done serving six years in the United States Air Force. During my six years, I served in the Presidential Honor Guard. Our main mission was providing Presidential support. This included all military funerals in Arlington National Cemetery, White House ceremonies, Pentagon arrivals for foreign dignitaries, retirement ceremonies, promotion ceremonies and many others. The largest mission we encountered were State Funerals for past Presidents. Back in June of 2004, when the world was shocked to hear of President Reagan passing, we diligently began preparing. I was extremely fortunate and blessed to have been picked as the only Air Force member to serve as one of the Pallbearers on an eight man joint service team, to carry the remains of President Reagan at the National Cathedral. After President Reagan lie in State at the Capitol, he made one final journey to the National Cathedral, where over 1,500 distinguished guests including all past living Presidents as well as President Bush, all current and former Joint Chiefs of Staff, Senators, Congressman, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, Colin Powell and many other foreign leaders and dignitaries from around the world paid their final respects to a man that many say was one of the greatest leaders not only America, but also the world had ever seen. The energy and power in the building that day was immense. Secret Service shut down a 30 block radius north, south, east and west and fighter planes scrambled the sky. Now before the ceremony began there were 1,500 official programs that were given to all the guests, and friends and family in attendance. These programs were marked with the Presidents seal on the front. After the ceremony had ended and President Reagan made his final journey to Simi Valley, California, the Bodybearers knelt together and said a very special prayer. Afterwards we were approached by General John Jumper, (former Air Force Chief of Staff) and he thanked and congradulated all of us for a job extremely well done. Then he presented us with 40 extra programs that were not used and asked if we would like to have a few each as a token of rememberance. We all were given four programs. Each one of us took one of our own and signed our names and our branch of service. We said one final goodbye, and marked our place in history. I ended up giving one to my Honor Guard Commander, one to my parents and for over five years now I have held onto the remaining two. To be honest I was not going to sell it, but over the years I have realized that I hold the one that is near and dear to my heart, and I feel it would be a privelege to share this piece of history with someone else. I have been in the Oval Office of the White House many times and President Reagans Program still rests upon one of the shelves that sits next to all our future Presidents as a reminder that we lost a great leader, a great friend and one of the best Presidents America will ever see. Now let me be straightforward and say, I am not trying to scam anyone. I am not asking for money up front, I am not asking for credit card numbers, nor am I asking for any personal information. I have all the evidence you would need to include pictures, videos, and the official uniform that I carried President Reagan with that day as well as many others. Truthfully I know how much of an impact President Reagan had on me as well as the world and I would like to share a piece of his history with someone else. But I think its fair to say that America was always in his best interests and he changed America and the world in a a very positive light.
