100 Gold Airplane Ingots Jane’s Franklin Mint 1986 This is a complete set of the Jane's Medallic Register of The World's Great Aircraft. Each ingot is overlaid in 24kt gold with a mirror finish and is estimated to contain at least 10 grains of 24kt gold. Jane’s is highly regarded and recognized as the world’s pre-eminent authority on technical reference of all the world’s aircraft ever made or flown. In 1986 Jane’s commissed the Franklin Mint to produce a comprehensive collection of 24kt gold proof strikes over solid bronze of the world’s top 100 aircraft. This rare limited twenty-two-year-old collection is the first (and only) mintage that will ever be authorized by Jane’s; it is both a treasured collector's dream and an investment esteemed and recognized the world over that continues to appreciate in value. On the front of each ingot is a picture of an aircraft in flight with its given name and the first year of production. On the reverse side are three true to scale profiles of the aircraft: an overhead shot looking down, a side view and a front to back view; Each ingot bears the famous ‘f’ Franklin Mint hallmark. Each ingot is edge stamped on one side ‘First Edition Proof’ with ‘c’ copyright, year of minting ‘86' and the letters ‘JPCL’ ; and on the other side ‘Jane’s Medallic Register’.This set comes in a display chest with four blue velvet lined trays each containing 25 ingots; the gold overlay is so thick that there is no tarnishing, toning or spotting. There are some spots that are faded on the blue part of the chest. Each ingot measures 1”x 1 ¾”. Included with the collection is a separate collector’s box containing cards that provide the history of the development of each aircraft along with technical data including wing span, length, gross weight, maximum speed, radius of action and more.
