Sony's PC101 combines an ultracompact one-chip MiniDV video camera with a digital still camera. Outfitted with a 10X Carl Zeiss zoom lens, a 2.5-inch touch-screen LCD, and a Memory Stick slot for saving still shots and MPEG video (64gb chip included) The 1.25-pound (fully loaded) PC101 ranks as one of the most portable and versatile MiniDV cameras available. It isn't as tiny as Sony's MicroMV cameras, but those models capture MPEG-2 video that can't match the PC101's DV video when it comes to video-editing flexibility. You navigate playback and effects menus via the touchscreen LCD. You can choose your focal point or spot metering target simply by touching it on the LCD image. The PC101 works well for handheld shooting. Its flip-out screen, optical image stabilization, rapid autofocus mechanism, and 10X optical zoom (with up to 120X digital zoom) lend themselves to shooting on the move and will help you bring home some very nice images. You can also switch easily between auto and manual focus via a button on the camera. Capture stills and video on either MiniDV tape or a Memory Stick for easy uploading. On the Memory Stick, the camera stores still shots as JPEG files and video as MPEG files. If you want to use the PC101 to play back your footage, you can mix stills and video and zoom in on your stills. Overall, this is a user friendly, versatile camera that captures excellent footage above and below the water. The Gates housing that was made specifically for this camera was originally over $2000. Check out www.gateshousings.com to learn about the professional quality of these housings. This one also has a wide angle dome port lens for amazing wide underwater shots as well as a built in Red Filter for color corection with an on/off lever. The camera comes with two rechargeable batteries, one standard and one larger battery for shooting underwater which lasts for over 4 hours. Also, the housing only has one o-ring which requires no grease. This is a great set-up designed to be very low maintenance while on a dive trip without having to sacrifice quality footage. Buy with confidence, this camera has been well cared for and will be enjoyed for many years to come. Thanks. Email me or call David at 808-345-1344.
