My fiance rear ended someone in our 93 Grand Am. The engine and tranny and everything looks good, no damage. The hood on the passenger side was bent back and the head light area smashed in. I inherited this truck from my uncle who had it as a plow truck. The plow is long gone. Pros: The transmission went out and he replaced it with a brand new turbo 400! ($1200 at shucks). It is a 3/4 ton with 8 bolt wheels. Has a 14 bolt rearend. It has the heavy duty spring option giving it 8 leafs per spring instad of the normal 6 and has an extra helper spring added to the front leafs. The front hubs have been changed out with Warn hubs as well. It also has an external transmission cooler as well as an added external oil cooler. Has dual exhaust.Cons: Needs a muffler put on one side.Needs a battery. (But I will gladly hook up one from another vehicle when you come to inspect it to let you hear the engine run.)Its an ugly old truck, with cancer and dents appropriate of its age but the 350 4 bolt main engine is Strong and like I said the turbo 400 transmission is brand spanking new (Just installed the dipstick and added oil to it today!). It would make a great plow truck again, especially with the front helper springs installed. The items in the rear will be removed, I just put them temporarily from when I moved out of a warehouse I was renting recently. Selling for less then the cost of the new tranny at $1100, but will consider offers for less as I have a yard full of vehicles and need to thin them out. I inherited this truck from my uncle who had it as a plow truck. The plow is long gone. Pros: The transmission went out and he replaced it with a brand new turbo 400! ($1200 at shucks). It is a 3/4 ton with 8 bolt wheels. Has a 14 bolt rearend. It has the heavy duty spring option giving it 8 leafs per spring instad of the normal 6 and has an extra helper spring added to the front leafs. The front hubs have been changed out with Warn hubs as well. It also has an external transmission cooler as well as an added external oil cooler. Has dual exhaust.Cons: Needs a muffler put on one side.Needs a battery. (But I will gladly hook up one from another vehicle when you come to inspect it to let you hear the engine run.)Its an ugly old truck, with cancer and dents appropriate of its age but the 350 4 bolt main engine is Strong and like I said the turbo 400 transmission is brand spanking new (Just installed the dipstick and added oil to it today!). It would make a great plow truck again, especially with the front helper springs installed. The items in the rear will be removed, I just put them temporarily from when I moved out of a warehouse I was renting recently. Selling for less then the cost of the new tranny at $1100, but will consider offers for less as I have a yard full of vehicles and need to thin them out. Your standard ford escort. It is a five speed with 178,000 miles. I bought it when it had 64,000 and commuted with it. All the miles I have put on it have been to and from Anchorage. If you are looking for a inexpensive car to get you from point A to point B then this is the car for you. I have never had any major problems with this car, with the exception of getting a clutch replaced about 5000 miles ago, and I recently had to replace the alternator and battery. It has a block heater, the AC works and I have a set of nice winter tires for it. 88 Toyota 4Runner. - 22RE - Manual Tranny - 178,000 miles on the truck. The motor (22RE) has an estimated 20,000 miles. The motor was built by a friend of mine and no expense was spared. The 22RE has been bored .60 over, the head was machined to accept oversized valves with duel valve springs, it received the updated chain guide that is metal backed instead of the cheesy plastic one, and it has a mid-range DOA racing cam in it. The motor overheated at the end of last summer so I overhauled the top end. It got new fuel injectors, and a new EGR valve because the old one seemed to be clogged along with all the new gaskets and what not. Overall the truck is in really great shape, problems you could expect with this truck are the same as any other truck its age. If you are asking about a truck this old I assume that you are handy, and maintain you autos yourself, if not I would recommend moving on to something a decade or two newer. But if you are looking for a 4 wheel drive truck as a daily driver, to go fishing with or to start building your off road rig and you are not afraid to do some work yourself, this is a good truck to start with. It drives good, no problems there. The 4 wheel drive has always worked. The only leak that I can think of, is the lower coolant hoses on the radiator drips sometimes and they are easily replaced. The starter was also just replaced. There is also a one inch body lift that was on the truck when I bought it. The rear spring packs on the old 4 runners always started sagging with time. Toyota just used regular pickup springs, so when you add the extra weight of the 4 runner they all sagged eventually. Instead of putting in some rough riding aftermarket crap I had longer shackles made. This way you get the benefit of some broken in, smooth riding springs, and the truck sits level. The shackles are only 1.5 inches (or 2 inches, cant remember) longer but now the truck rides butter smooth and level.Is there anything wrong with it? Sometimes the window on the tailgate doesnt want to come down and it requires a whack to make it work kinda like the fonz. I had a shop look at it, they replaced the relay on the driver side passenger seat, behind the trim panel and cleaned up all the connections from the switch back. It still does it sometimes and I am starting to think that maybe the switch is just worn out. If thats the case, then that is a super cheap fix. The interior is showing its age. As far as rust goes the only rust is on the tailgate. This is a very complete, and rust free truck. The tailgate isnt bad, if you wire wheeled it and painted it would be good for another 20 years.
