Certifications, continuing education and licensing will also be your responsibility in this department.This is a small town of 650 residents, located on a river in rural Alaska. There is no road system - only boat, barges in the summer, and airplane access. This community is rich in Native culture and also manages a boarding school for 200 students, grades 9 through 12, for the outlying communities. | Manager wanted for Alaska’s primary book, calendar and note card print broker with more than 100 accounts. This position requires a well organized, disciplined individual with knowledge of preparing bid specifications for printers to bid on. This ten year old company is a subsidiary of Todd Communications, Alaska’s primary publisher and wholesale distributor of books, calendars, maps, note cards and posters. The manager will work closely with a full time in-house artist specializing in book design. Jobs are printed in China, Korea, Thailand and throughout the Lower 48 and Alaska. The manager writes bid specifications for multiple printers to bid on in order to obtain the best combination of price, quality and speed. The job includes responsibility for tracking shipments and delivery times. It also involves working with a customs broker, trucking companies and FedEx. The manager has considerable customer contact for obtaining specifications and explaining how jobs are handled, along with timing of jobs. The job involves preparing written bids for customers and explaining various printing options. Being able to do an excellent job of proofing all work is a very important part of this position so the customer always receives what they want. It entails working with customers to address all their concerns with regard to printing. Customers include some of Alaska’s finest photographers, cartoonists, writers and fine artists, or their publishers.
